Beer and football have always worked out well together. So, are we surprised to discover a tavern is in the area of the site of what will be the new school's new football stadium. Actually, yes. It seems the workers unearthed the remains of an 18th century tavern. Thousands of ceramics, cutlery and bottles were found and said to have been from the Raritan Landing settlement. The tavern that excavators discovered is the legendary Rising Sun Tavern, which was the first building where academic classes were held. Rutgers reportedly plans to continue their project of transforming the site into a new stadium, but the “section will be transformed into a plaza and will have a historical marker.” But will there be a Happy Hour to go with it?
