January promotional game to mark end of Orange Bowl

A Sunrise sports memorabilia company is planning to send the Orange Bowl stadium out with a festival and sell off everything from seats to lockers as mementos of the venue's storied history.

Miami city commissioners approved on Thursday negotiating a contract with Mounted Memories to salvage seats, lockers, goalposts and other pieces of the stadium that it will then sell and share a portion of the profits with the city. Company officials plan to make the salvage operation a celebration of the stadium's 70 years.

"Our goal is to have a flag football game between Miami Dolphins greats and [University of Miami] Hurricanes greats and the Dolphins will be led by Dan Marino," said Ross Tannenbaum, president and CEO of Dreams Inc.

The Orange Bowl is one of the more stories football stadiums in the country. Serving for decades as the home of the University of Miami Hurricanes and the NFL's Miami Dolphins, the stadium will be torn down next season, with the land potentially serving as the site of a new MLB ballpark and MLS stadium.
