Could labor unrest threaten new LA stadium?

Ed Roski Jr.says he won't build a new Los Angeles stadium until he has an NFL team in hand. But with potential labor unrest looming in the NFL, he may need to wait beyond 2011 to launch the facility.

To say Roski has been a prominent topic in NFL circles in recent months is an understatement: the NFL doesn't change things too often, and the move of a franchise to Los Angeles would be a major event indeed.

But insiders say negotiating labor peace will be the biggest issue for NFL officials the next several months. The conflict is simple: the NFL wants players to accept a smaller piece of the pie. If an agreement is not reached, there could be a labor stoppage in the 2011 season.

Which could throw a serious money wrench into Roski's plans. This will have a ripple effect: though every insider we've talked to says the Jacksonville Jaguars franchise is currently tagged as the future L.A. team, the Minnesota Vikings in particular have used the presence of a Los Angeles stadium to leverage their own stadium wishes. Take away the threat of an L.A. stadium for any reason, and the Vikings lose a little power in stadium discussions.
