02/26/2008 10:17 AM - The future of the Pontiac Silverdome, the former home of the Detroit Lions (NFL), may rest in one of the six redevelopment proposals laid out before the City Council. Here's a look at the six proposals:
- Stuart Frankel Development Company, a local real-estate firm, wants to redevelop the property.
- Smart Park International LLC is looking at placing a horse-racing venue, indoor water park, Major League Soccer field, hotel, convention center, retail and residential development on the Silverdome property.
- Silver Stallion Development Corp. is bidding to put a race track and casino inside the stadium.
- United Assurance's bid is for a venue featuring entertainment, sporting events, hospitality and broadcasting.
- U.S. Hospitality's bid was not released.
- Global Baseball wants to lease the property but did not go past that.
The Silverdome has been unused since the Lions left for Ford Field in 2002 and was closed to the public in 2006. It costs $2.2 million a year to keep the roof inflated. More from the Oakland Press. |
